THE RESCUED HEART
Rory jumped when the buzzer sounded. She was hoping it was Hack, but when she opened the door, Bruce was standing there with the biggest bunch of red roses she had ever seen.
“Hi, Dorrie. Can I come in?”
As she stood aside to let him enter, he handed her the roses.
“I made the biggest mistake of my life, walking out on you.” He followed her into the tiny kitchen where she put the flowers in a vase. Taking her hand, Bruce pulled her down on the sofa. “I’ve missed you. Can we start over?”
Rory stared at him in disbelief.“You desert me when I’m injured and think an apology will smooth it over?”
“I offered to go to the hospital with you, but you turned me down.”
“You should have insisted.”“I offered to go to the hospital with you, but you turned me down.”
“Rory, you’re not making sense. Come on. We had some great times together.”
She sat back. They had had fun, but now Hack filled her heart. But he belonged to someone else. Better to be with Bruce or be alone?
“Why this sudden change of heart?”
“It’s not easy to find a girl like you. You made me laugh and you’re hot.”
“Laughter and sex, two good reasons, I suppose.” She chuckled.
He leaned in and kissed her. Bruce had always been a good kisser, but in her heart she kept wishing it was Hack.
“You drive a hard bargain, Bruce.”
“So we’re back?” He slipped his arms around her.
She nodded, sinking into his embrace.He lay back, pulling her down on top of him. ****
Repeated ringing of her buzzer, was beginning to make Rory mad.
“Who the hell is that?” Bruce said, slipping into his jeans.
“I don’t know, but they’re gonna hear it,” she said, donning her robe before heading for the door.She threw it open, ready to blast the person on the other side.
“You have the wrong…” Her mouth hung open.“Hack?”
